AC/DC rocks on to Europe backed by massive Daktronics display screem

BROOKINGS, S.D. – After rocking North America with 42 shows throughout the United States and Canada, AC/DC’s Rock ‘N’ Roll Train docked at Telenor Arena in Oslo, Norway on Wednesday Feb. 18 to kick off the European leg of the band’s Black Ice Tour. The group’s high-tech set includes cannons, a wrecking ball and a ‘Whole Lotta of Rosie’ (in the form of a 60-foot inflatable doll) and features a massive 70 square meter Daktronics LED video display comprised of modular PST-10 panels.
The display, provided by Screenworks, the tour’s official video partner, brings AC/DC’s shows to a dramatic opening as a massive mechanical train appears to crash through it while the band strikes the opening chords of “Rock ‘N’ Roll Train”. Moving along a synchronized track, the display divides in two as the locomotive steams through, forming a pair of smaller displays at opposite ends of the stage which then screen live video, colorful animations and engaging crowd shots before coming back together at the end of the show.
“With the band’s Black Ice album debuting at #1 in multiple countries throughout Europe, there’s no question that AC/DC’s European fan base has been anticipating their arrival,” said Myron Linde, Daktronics Mobile and Modular Sales Manager. “It has been a pleasure working with Screenworks, a leading designer and provider of mobile and modular video systems, to help create a unique display system to add extra fuel to the European leg of one of the biggest tours in AC/DC’s storied history.”
The video display, measuring approximately 7.3 m H x 10.4 m W, is comprised of Daktronics latest high-end addition to the PST series, PST-10 panels. These panels feature MAG-10 technology, a new breed of indoor/outdoor display module that uses 3-in-1 black-stamped LEDs allowing the display to keep a low profile on stage and then surge with imagery—bringing bright, vivid images to fans.
The display was a huge hit during the band’s North American tour. Fans scream with enthusiasm as the screen splits and the train comes forward, adding an extra dimension of excitement and interactivity to the show. The PST-10’s balance between superior video quality, uniformity and ease of transport make it the ideal fit for this tour, which will blitz through Europe, Asia, and Australia before it’s all said and done.
The European leg of the Black Ice Tour will hit up a number of major cities throughout Europe, performing before numerous sold out crowds, before concluding in Glasgow, England in late June.
